The "International Planetree - Human-Centered Care Conference," organized to share sustainable strategies for the future, took place on September 20, Friday, at Istinye University with a high level of participation. In collaboration with OHSAD and Istinye University, the conference emphasized the importance of human-centered care while discussing sustainable strategies for the future of the healthcare sector. The significance of human-centered approaches in healthcare and how these approaches can be sustained in the future were key topics of discussion. The conference began with an opening speech by OHSAD President Dr. Reşat Bahat and continued throughout the day with various panel discussions.
"We Need to Touch the Human Spirit"
Dr. Reşat Bahat, the President of OHSAD, stated that any healthcare system that does not place humans at its center is flawed. He emphasized, "If you do not put the human and the patient at the center, no one can be in the right place. Focusing on people in healthcare and distributing healing for their benefit is very valuable. We do this not just by performing medical processes well, acquiring good equipment, providing excellent treatments, or establishing modern hospitals. We need to touch the human spirit. As OHSAD, our effort is to place human-centered patient care at the core of our association and organizations. A significant part of what we do today will likely be handled by artificial intelligence and software in 10 or maybe 20 years. So what remains for us? To touch the human spirit."
"Our Goal is a Sensitive and Human-Centered Healthcare Service"
The conference addressed the challenges faced by the healthcare sector and strategies to overcome these challenges. Liv Hospital Group Coordinator Meri İstiroti chaired the panel on "Challenges and Strategies to Overcome Challenges."
She highlighted the complexity and difficulty of the healthcare field, stating that innovative solutions and strategic approaches could help overcome these challenges. Meri İstiroti remarked, "Gaining a more empathetic approach in all hospital disciplines, for both adult and pediatric patients, and actively involving patients and their families in the treatment processes has become the key motto of the new era. We organized this conference to listen to the experiences of hospitals that have taken steps toward this approach and to explore what successful firms are doing for their employees in terms of human-centered care. Our goal is to develop together to provide more sensitive and human-centered healthcare services."
Expressing excitement about being at the Human-Centered Care Conference, Planetree International President Micheal Guilano noted that the organization's mission is to humanize healthcare services in 35 countries. He added, "While learning about the experiences of hospitals in Turkey in planning and implementing human-centered care, we aim to support the scaling of humane care."
The conference also featured information and experience sharing from Liv Hospital Ulus Brain and Nerve Surgery Specialist Prof. Dr. Serdar Kahraman and Liv Hospital Group Medical Director Op. Dr. Adil Tanık with the participants.
