What is a Spinal Cord Stimulant?

Chronic neuropathic pain, most commonly associated with diabetes, can also occur with other conditions that cause nerve damage. With neuropathic pain, there can be very severe pains in the organs where the damaged nerve provides sensation.  Such pains may not even respond to morphine treatment.  These pains can be treated with spinal cord stimulation, one of the interventional pain treatments.  A neurostimulator is placed in the spine in an area directly related to the source of pain using local anesthesia and sedation.
