Liv Hospital Ulus

Regenerative Medicine and Stemcell Center

At Liv Hospital Ulus Regenerative Medicine Stem Cell Production Center, safe and highest quality biological products are manufactured for use in treatments at intra-hospital GMP standards for the first time in Turkey. Our aim is to provide new cellular and tissue-based medical treatments for our patients using the latest advances in genetic sciences and biotechnology, as well as providing expertise and infrastructure to resolve complex legal, financial and manufacturing problems associated with the transport of cells and tissue-based products. The mission of the Regenerative Medicine Stem Cell Production Center is to provide a comprehensive service to patients through the coordinated efforts of doctors, researchers and bioengineers, and to support approved new biological treatments, stem cell production and application methods.

The medicine of the future with a perfectionist approach

Our Regenerative Medicine Stem Cell Production Center aims to improve and extend patients' quality of life by transforming advanced technology stem cell therapies and tissue engineering applications into clinical products for individuals suffering from various diseases and injuries with a perfectionist approach.

Manufacturing at GMP standards

Liv Hospital Ulus Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Production Center is a cell production facility with a "clean room status" under GMP standards, established on an area of 124 square meters in our hospital. It is one of few centers in our country and in the world and is active since 2014 licensed by the Ministry of Health under GMP standards. Clean room conditions provide a workspace that is ventilated with regularly filtered air, and continuous particle counting inside the area. We have 2 manufacturing areas, 1 cell storage area, 4 quality control areas in our center, in addition to changing and office areas, a quarantine and a storage area. All the operations at the center are regularly documented and ventilation, pressure, temperature, humidity conditions of the facility are monitored and managed from the automation room, while the environmental conditions are continuously controlled by the air conditioning unit.

Let Your Body Regenerate Itself

Using regenerative cells obtained from the patient's own tissues Liv Hospital Ulus Regenerative and Stem Cell Production Center provides solutions for medical and cosmetic problems that cannot be treated through  traditional methods. All ethical rules are strictly applied at the Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Production Center and patient health and interests are given the highest priority. Working in collaboration with all branches, it provides permanent solutions to many problems that conventional medicine cannot cure through conventional treatments. Regenerating unhealthy, dysfunctional cells and tissues using biological products, the Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Production Center uses practices defined by legal and scientific procedures.

In Which Areas are they Used?

Scientists carried out intensive research on stem cells and some cellular treatment methods that employ stem cells are now included in clinical applications. Cellular treatment methods are currently in use in orthopedics, plastic surgery and dermatology.

Orthopedic Applications

For joint cartilages and osteoarthritis cases, the use of stem cells obtained from autologous cartilage cells or fat tissue of the person yield very good results.

Dermatology and Plastic Surgery Applications

Stem cell treatments for breast reconstruction, chronic wounds that don’t heal, burn wounds and cosmetic concerns have become a routine practice. In dermatology, application of fibroblast cells obtained from the person yield positive clinical results, especially in skin rejuvenation and the treatment of acne scars.
Diabetic foot wounds are one of the most important causes of long-term hospitalization of diabetic patients. Diabetic foot wounds are observed in 25 percent of diabetic patients and result in the amputation of the feet or toes of 8%. Cellular treatment for wound healing is a very effective method. It is possible to treat diabetic foot wounds by administering regenerative cells to the surgery site. In addition to the application of cellular treatments in diabetic wound healing, their application in chronic or acute wounds also displays a significant potential.  The stem cell-rich cell cocktail obtained by enzymatic separation from fatty tissue from the abdomen by lipo-aspiration is called stromal vascular fraction (SVF). SVF applications rich in regenerative cells are known to contribute to the healing of diabetic foot wounds through different mechanisms such as apoptosis inhibition, collagen synthesis, growth factor release, new vessel formation and stimulation of cell proliferation.

Vascular Surgery Applications

Buerger's disease, which is a vascular occlusion problem especially observed in smokers, is a painful disease that can pose a risk of finger, foot or leg amputation. Stem cell transplantation allows patients to avoid the risk of amputation and to improve their quality of life.

Brain and Nerve Surgery Applications

After spinal cord injuries, patients can lead a higher-quality life, including being able to move their feet and hold their urine, thanks to stem cell applications.

Neurology Applications

Stem cell applications in children with muscle dystrophy (Duchenne muscular dystrophy) and Cerebral Palsy slow the progression of the disease.

GMP “Good Manufacturing Practices” add quality to health

GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards are quality standards that are mandatory for human health, especially in the production of pharmaceutical products. GMP ensures that medical products are constantly manufactured and controlled to certain quality standards in order to be suitable for use. Our center is one of few centers in our country and in the world, active since 2014 licensed by the Ministry of Health, under GMP standards. Clean room conditions offer a workspace that is ventilated with regularly filtered air, and continuous particle counting inside the area. The classification of clean rooms is made according to the total area air flow quality, in descending quality from B to C. Class B, where the air quality and pressure are the highest, is the area where cellular products are manufactured. Manufacturing is carried out in Class A biosafety cabinets located in this area. Quality control of the manufactured products is carried out using advanced technology tests in the quality control area with a Class C air quality. These tests consist of genetic, microbiological and immunophenotypic tests. Our specialized and experienced staff work using sterile and protective special clothing suitable for these areas. Products that are manufactured are distributed if all quality control requirements are met. The products that will be stored can be stored for a long time in cold storage devices in Class B and C air quality areas without losing quality. All equipment and hardware at the center are checked by independent and accredited organizations for validation and calibration every year and records of all processes are kept. An internal audit is carried out by the center and hospital staff every month, and the Ministry of Health carries out an annual audit. All records are reviewed by the auditors.
