Gallium-68 PET-BT

Gallium 68 (Ga-68) PET-CT

Molecular imaging is performed with high precision for prostate cancer and neuroendocrine tumors in PET-CT imaging performed with Ga-68 marked compounds.

It is used for the detection of the disease's spread, direction towards the best treatment choices and assessment of response to treatment

PET-CT with Ga-68 DOTA peptides in neuroendocrine tumors

Neuroendocrine tumors are rare, slowly progressive but sometimes expansionary tumors that can indicate various findings depending on the site they are located or the organ of origin.  They originate from hormone producing endocrine tissues and nerve cells. Neuroendocrine cells are generally present in gastrointestinal system (stomach, bowels etc.) organs and organs like lung. PET-CT examination performed with Gallium-68 marked DOTA peptides for the diagnosis and staging of neuroendocrine tumors is an advanced imaging method that has a high rate of accuracy in detection of lesions. The radioactive marked compounds administered to the patient in this diagnosis are accumulated in the sick area of the body and allow these areas to be detected. It is a guiding light for diagnosis and treatment planning. Following the time waited for the diffusion of the substance injected into the body, imaging is performed with PET-CT device. Imaging takes between 20-40 minutes.

Ga-68 PSMA PET–CT in Prostate Cancer

One of the most frequent cancer types in men is prostate cancer. Gleason score indicated during pathological diagnosis refers to more aggressive tumors with higher potential of spread. There is a protein called PMSA (prostate specific membrane antigen) on the surface of these cancerous cells. While the detection of these tissues is the goal of Ga-68 PSMA PET examination, cancerous cells that have caused metastasis in the body are scanned very precisely.

The stage of the disease and how far it has spread are important stages in directing the treatment. Using Ga-68 PSMA PET, diffusion of prostate cancer can be detected with a high precision in a shorter time. It is very beneficial in patients who have been detected to have moderate or high rate of spread. Gallium 68 PSMA PET-CT ensures detection of more lesions in staging of the disease (determination of spread), in detection of recurrences and metastases after treatment compared to other methods. Even in very low PSA blood levels, a better result is obtained in detection of recurrence.

While the dosage of the radiation that the patients receive is within the reasonable limits, it is discharged from the body in a short period. Imaging procedure is performed 20-40 minutes after the waiting period for the diffusion of Ga-68 marked PMSA compounds following their injection into the body.
