Gynecological Oncology

70 thousand women are diagnosed with cancer every year. Surgery is one of the most preferred treatment methods in Liv Hospital Gynecological Oncology Clinic, although the treatment varies according to the type of cancer. Surgical intervention alone can be a sufficient treatment in early diagnosis. Robotic surgery provides many advantages for both the patient and the doctor. Robotic surgery and laparoscopic surgery is a specialty that requires additional training. At Liv Hospital, a specialist and experienced physician in gynecological oncology and robotic surgery provides service.

Brachytherapy in gynecological cancers

Brachytherapy in gynecological cancers is used effectively in the treatment of gynecological cancers. Brachytherapy is used in gynecological cancers, especially in the treatment of cervical cancer, endometrium (uterine) cancer and vaginal cancer. The radioactive source is placed in the uterus or vagina and the tumor tissue is irradiated. Brachytherapy is usually applied as an outpatient treatment under sedation or general anesthesia.

Evaluating at the tumor council

In Liv Hospital, patients first enter the Tumor Council, which consists of many specialties such as surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, nuclear medicine and intensive care, and the treatment process is determined. Liv Hospital Cancer Center provides a 360 degree service for patients.

Diseases Treated in Our Clinic

Cervical Cancer

It is among the top 10 most common cancers in our country. It is thought that between 1,300 and 1,500 new cases are diagnosed annually. However, 60 percent of the cases do not respond to treatment and are diagnosed at an advanced stage. With the current sociocultural changes, it is thought that the burden of cervical cancer will increase day by day and pose a much greater threat to our country in the coming years. In cervical cancer, as a result of scanning with pap smear, cervical cancer of thousands of women is detected in the early stages, before cancer occurs, and women are prevented from losing their lives due to cancer.

Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is also among the top 10 most common cancers in women. As in the whole world, at least three-quarters of the cases are diagnosed in advanced stages in our country, and unfortunately, at least 80 percent of these cancers are fatal at these stages. Not leaving a visible tumor in the first surgery of patients with ovarian cancer is the "gold standard". In Liv Hospital Gynecological Oncology Clinic, the rate of successful surgery without visible tumor is 93 percent. This rate is 60 percent in some centers of Europe and 11 percent in Canada. Unfortunately, cancer tumor markers are used widely and unconsciously throughout the country for the possible early diagnosis of ovarian cancer. There is no known effective method for screening ovarian cancer yet.

Endometrium Cancer

Another important cancer among female reproductive tract cancers is endometrial cancer. The most common female reproductive tract cancer in women in Western countries is endometrial cancers, and it is among the top 10 most common cancers in our country. Usually there may be accompanying breast, ovarian or colon cancers. Although there is no screening program, most cases are diagnosed at an early stage due to the complaint of bleeding. For this reason, endometrium cancer should be kept in mind and examined in postmenopausal vaginal bleeding.

Other Female Reproductive System Cancers

Female external reproductive system (vulva and vagina) cancers and special female reproductive system cancers are treated in Liv Hospital Gynecological Oncology Clinic according to international standards.
