Ask Difficult Questions Find Better Solutions
The opening speech of the Advanced Cardiovascular Solutions (ACS'24) Symposium was made by Meri Istiroti, Liv Hospital Group Coordinator and Istinye University Executive Board Member. Meri İstiroti expressed her pleasure that Istinye University Congress Center hosted the first scientific meeting of ACS24, which tells the future of cardiology. Liv Hospital Cardiology Specialists Prof. Dr. Alp Burak Çatakoğlu, Prof. Dr. Enis Oğuz, Prof. Dr. Kadriye Kılıçkesmez, Uzm. Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Karahan and Prof. Dr. Rıfat Eralp Ulusoy, ACS24 reflected theoretical information as well as live surgeries from operating rooms. The sessions organized with the motto “Ask the tough questions, find better solutions” provided both an instructive and inspiring experience for the participants.
Live Cases New Technologies and Innovation at the Center
At ACS24, many topics from interventional cardiology to arrhythmia treatments were discussed in detail on live cases in the presence of cardiology experts. In this context, the session on persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation surgery, which was broadcast live, stood out with both patient management and 3D mapping techniques used. Prof. Dr. Enis Oğuz said, “Thanks to mapping techniques, procedures are performed faster and in more detail. Thanks to these sessions, we not only learn, but also have the opportunity to discuss interactively with our colleagues”, emphasizing the scientific and technological importance of the meeting.
At the symposium, where drug-eluting balloons, which have recently entered the agenda, and issues with controversial indications were discussed in detail, Prof. Dr. Alp Burak Çatakoğlu said that DCB (Drug-eluting Balloons) can provide advantages in thin vessels, in-stent narrowings and fork vessels called bifurcation. An example of a procedure performed by evaluating the amount of blood flow with the technique called FFR in bifurcated vessels called bifurcation was performed live and thus, it was emphasized to avoid unnecessary stenting.
- Drug Coated Balloons (DCB): One of the most remarkable sessions of this year, the technical details of the use of drug-coated balloons were discussed in a heated debate.
- TAVI: Pre-procedural planning methods of patients to be treated with TAVI for aortic valve stenosis were discussed in depth. It was emphasized that with planning, complications can be prevented and the procedure is safer. How the new TAVI valves will be implanted step by step with modern and minimalist methods was explained.
- Implementation of Complex Procedures: How to make the procedures easier and reproducible with the right choice of stents and materials was explained through live cases.
Scientific Solidarity Will Continue in Future Projects
At the end of the event, the topics of creating an international network for ACS projects for 2025, increasing scientific collaborations and focusing on innovative educational models were discussed. The symposium concluded by emphasizing the importance of patient-centered decision-making mechanisms of the “heart team”.
ACS24 left a lasting mark in the world of cardiology as a platform where new technologies were introduced, scientific interaction was at a high level and contributed to professional development.

At this point, our book ‘Real Prescriptions for Men 50 and Beyond’, which we prepared with our expert physicians from Liv Hospital, comes into play. In our book, we discuss the concerns, worries, potential health problems and solutions that men experience during this period, while also sharing the tricks of renewal. Everyone has long deserved to do their 50s justice. Whatever you have left unfulfilled, now is the time to do it. Don’t let your energy run out! However, don’t forget that health comes first. Let’s take more care of our health than ever because we have a lot of work to do. I wish you healthy, happy years, years and a life where your dreams come true.”

Dr. Ece Gurol Kars, Op. Dr. Mirac Turan, Spec. Dr. Muhsin Doran, Spec. Dr. Refik Cihnioglu, Psk. Belgin Arslantas, Dr. The articles in the book, written by Bora Murat and Dr. Hamid Aydın, provide important information on many topics regarding the heart, kidney, liver, eye and prostate health of men over the age of 50.
Is It Possible to Age While Staying Young?
“Today, many countries are continuing the research phase of stem cell-based cellular treatments for longevity, anti-aging and delaying or slowing down aging. Recently, scientific studies have been published on the positive effects of nanoparticles secreted by stem cells, called exosomes, that is, very small nano balls containing many growth hormones and useful molecules, against aging. Exosome technology is being followed with great hope by many scientists as the future of medicine. Scientific studies on its positive effects against aging, when used together with stem cells or alone, continue unabated. (Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Center Director Prof. Dr. Erdal Karaöz)
Sexuality Step By Step: A Healthy Life at All Ages
“Sexuality in men after the age of 50 is an experience that changes with age. Hormonal changes and health conditions can affect libido and performance. However, this period can be enriched with communication and understanding. Innovative treatments such as PRP, stem cells, ESWT and regular exercise can increase energy and blood circulation. Open dialogues with your partner can help you discover new ways to revitalize your sexual life. Sexuality should be accepted as a natural part of aging and should be experienced in a pleasant way by adapting to it.” (Urology Specialist Op. Dr. Miraç Turan)
Pay Attention to The Number of Steps
“Research shows that heart diseases decrease in those who walk more than 5 thousand steps per day. In addition to aerobic exercises such as swimming and cycling; it is known that exercises that increase muscle strength such as weight lifting and cross-fit are also beneficial for the heart and veins. Still, I recommend that you consult your doctor for these high-intensity exercises. It should not be ignored that patients using blood thinners should be careful about combat sports and sports that involve the risk of falling, which can cause problems such as bleeding and bruising, and that precautions should be taken. It should also be kept in mind that those with an unclosed hole in their heart may be at risk of suffering from the bends while scuba diving.” (Cardiology Specialist Prof. Dr. Alp Burak Çatakoğlu)
Fears That Come With Advanced Age
“The 50s are the period when we enter a new phase in our lives. People have experienced adaptation problems at each new stage, but they have always managed to adapt quickly. Our anxieties and fears generally tend to fade on their own. However, it can be very exhausting if they last long. If you think this process is too tiring, I suggest you do not hesitate to get help. Support that will walk with you during this process is always good and sharing your concerns will ease the burden on you.” (Psychiatry Specialist Dr. Refik Cihnioğlu)
Focus on Biological Age Not Chronological Age
“With age, the risk of developing chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, heart and brain vascular diseases increases, and these chronic diseases also accelerate biological aging. However, it should not be forgotten that lifestyle has a great effect on the emergence of these diseases. If a person has a smoking and alcohol habit on their 50th birthday, quitting and incorporating a new exercise program into their life will be the best and most priceless gift they can give themselves.” (Internal Medicine and Geriatrics Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Birkan İlhan)
