Spina Bifida Program
This program focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of spinal and spinal cord malformations resulting from an error during the embryonic development of the spinal cord. The Spina Bifida Program addresses various conditions affecting the spinal cord, including myelomeningocele, spina bifida occulta, meningocele, and encephalocele. These conditions can manifest in multiple forms and require ongoing follow-up into adulthood after necessary treatment, often associated with chronic urinary tract infections, scoliosis, and spasticity.
Children born with congenital spinal defects face significant challenges, as they may exhibit multiple issues from different specialties simultaneously. At our hospital, we have established a Spina Bifida team to address concerns such as urinary and bowel incontinence, kidney problems, orthopedic issues, and hydrocephalus related to neurosurgery. This multidisciplinary team collaborates to provide comprehensive care and joint treatment for these patients.
