Urinary Tract Infection

Urinary tract infection may develop in the urinary bladder or lower urinary tract, starting from the kidney. Inflammatory disease of the kidney due to microbes is called pyelonephritis. It is also called as upper urinary tract infection. The most common factor is escherichia coli from the intestine.

Symptoms and Findings

  • Fever
  • Sweating
  • Trembling
  • Chest pain
  • Painful urination
  • Frequent urination
  • Strong urge to urinate
  • Headache, nausea, vomiting.
Urinary tract infection can be confused with passing stone. If it is not treated or in advanced cases, it may cause loss of the patient due to transfer of germs into the patient's blood.

Lower Urinary Tract Infection

There are various levels of lower urinary tract infection. The most common is cystitis, which is inflammation of the urinary bladder. It is common in women. Its symptoms include painful urination, frequent urination and a strong urge to urinate. Its symptoms are less compared to upper urinary tract infection.

Observation of microbes and inflammatory cells (leukocytes) in microscopic examination of urine is helpful in the diagnosis. The definitive diagnosis is made by microbial examination of urine taken by appropriate technique (urine culture).

Urine culture should be taken for proper treatment. The use of antibiotics without urine culture adversely affects the results of urine culture. Therefore, irrational use of antibiotics should be avoided. The disease can be treated permanently and without damage to the kidney using a correct treatment.
