Characteristics of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Team

Liv Hospital Department of Neurosurgery is in clinical, academic and scientific collaboration with the staff of Istinye University School of Medicine. With cutting-edge technological devices and cooperation with all the units of the hospital, many patients who cannot be operated in many centers in Turkey and abroad or who are rejected due to high-risk, are operated successfully in our center.

Live surgery courses

Many neurosurgeons attend or participate via webcast through the internet in live surgery courses, which are organized every year under the leadership of the department. Studies in these surgical courses are later published in reputable journals of international brain surgery literature and are presented in congresses and symposiums.

Expert surgeons

The specialized Pediatric Neurosurgery team at Liv Hospital Neurosurgery Clinic, endeavors to find the right surgical solutions for all kinds of neurosurgical problems in pediatric patients. Surgeons and other department physicians, each one specialized in their respective fields, have completely redesigned the system with a different approach for the Pediatric Neurosurgery unit. The aim of the Pediatric Neurosurgery team is to ensure that no babies and children is born with a disease or gets sick. The goal is to provide the best health service to every child who gets a medical condition in the clinic.

Technical infrastructure

Liv Hospital Pediatric Neurosurgery Clinic performs inpatient treatment of pediatric patients at the pediatrics service and pediatrics/neonatal service. In this unit, the most modern and technological infrastructure suitable for pediatric patients is provided.

A special surgical microscope is used

The operating theater, which is the headquarters of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Clinic, has a special structure used only for brain and spinal cord surgeries. All operations are performed under a special surgical microscope (ZeissPentero 900) used in the world's leading centers. This microscope enlarges and illuminates the surgery area, as well as staining tumors and vessels with special filters to perform more delicate operations. In this context, following the introduction of sodium fluorescein in tumor surgery, a special Yellow 560 filter is used to allow the tumor to be more easily separated from normal brain and spinal cord tissue.

Fluorescence-guided tumor surgery

Liv Hospital is one of the world's first practitioners of this method, also referred to as “fluorescence-guided tumor surgery." The special microscope system also has an IR800 camera that makes blood vessels instantly visible through angiography during surgery using a material called ICG. The latest wonder microscopy, the ZeissKinevo 900 microscope has been sent by Zeiss company to our clinic, along with some of the leading clinics of the world, for pre-evaluation before it is introduced to the market. The system can record in 2D-3D.

Neuromonitoring methods

The navigation system (Medtronicstealth Station) and special neuroultrasound (HitachiAloka Alpha) systems, which significantly increase accuracy in brain surgeries, are used in almost every surgery. Computed tomography (CT) and/or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be performed in each case where they are necessary. During surgery, brain and spinal cord functions can be monitored continuously using neuromonitoring methods. The most modern endoscopic systems, ultrasonic aspirators and all kinds of surgical/microsurgical sets that make tumor surgery easier can be used. The operating room has conditions that exceed standards with its hardware and infrastructure.

Experienced anesthesia team

Intensive care infrastructure and equipment are specially designed for pediatric patients. Anesthesia practices that provide safe and effective operations are performed by an experienced team using the latest devices and materials.
