Face Lifting

Face lifting eliminates sagging on the skin of the face and neck and removes the fat under the chin. It also reinforces the subcutaneous tissue.

Ideal candidates for face lift surgery are people whose face and neck skins began to sag, but didn't yet lose its elasticity, and who don't have other health problems. This surgery is usually performed on men and women over 40 years of age. Nose and eyelid cosmetic surgeries, forehead correction and brow lifting operations can also be performed during face lifting in order to make the face look more beautiful and young. Filling material injections (fat, hyalurinic acid etc.) or peeling (mechanical, chemical, laser) can also be performed to eliminate fine wrinkles.

How is the surgery performed?

Local anesthesia and intravenous sedation can be used as well as general anesthesia. Normally the operation takes 2 to 2.5 hours. It is possible to be discharged on the same day. If additional procedures (nose, eyelid, etc.) are performed, surgery may be prolonged. Face lifting is a surgery that leaves a mark behind. However, this mark is not prominent. The scars are hidden in the scalp, in the temple area, in front of and behind the ears. If fat is removed from under the chin, a 3-5 mm mark remains under the chin. If eyelid and forehead lifting are also performed, additional scars will remain in the scalp, on the eyelids and on the forehead. In general, however, these marks are not prominent and can be easily concealed.

What awaits the patient after surgery?

Early postoperative period usually easy on the patient. The face may have overall swelling and bruising, numbness and tension. These disappear without intervention within 3 to 5 days. A head bandage is applied but the eyes, nose and mouth are left exposed. Rarely, a pipe (drain) can be placed to prevent blood accumulation. Drain insertion may be necessary for male patients because blood supply to the facial skin is richer and blood clots are more common. Drains are removed within 2 days at the latest. Bandages are removed after 2 days. A general examination is performed and the dressings are changed. The hair is washed and, if necessary, the dressing is replaced. Sutures are removed after 5 to 7 days.
