Urooncology

Urooncology is a branch of medicine located at the intersection of the fields of urology and oncology. This specialty is a discipline that examines and treats cancers that develop in the urogenital system (organs such as kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate, testicles, penis). Urooncologists are medical professionals who specialize in the diagnosis, surgery, and medical treatment of genitourinary cancers.

Urooncology at Liv Hospital

At Liv Hospital Urooncology Clinic, robotic and laparoscopic minimally invasive surgical methods are used in the treatment of prostate cancer, the most common cancer in men. In the clinic, all kinds of urological cancer treatments such as kidney, bladder and testicle are also performed with minimally invasive robotic surgery.

With Multiparametric Portal MRI, the latest imaging method developed in our clinic for the diagnosis of prostate cancer, prostate cancer is detected at an earlier stage and biopsy and treatment are performed with the most accurate technique.

Advantages of Robotic Surgery in Urooncology

Less Blood Loss: In the robotic radical prostatectomy operation, the abdomen is inflated with gas. The pressure of the gas significantly reduces bleeding. At the end of the operation, the gas is discharged from the abdomen. Additionally, with the use of high-resolution 3D (three-dimensional) cameras that enlarge the operation area, bleeding is determined more clearly and stopped earlier. Usually it is not necessary to give blood to the patient.

Reduction in Hospital Stay: Since the incisions are smaller and blood loss is less in robotic surgery, patients can leave the hospital in a shorter time compared to open surgeries.

Reduction in Catheterization Duration: Since the robotic prostatectomy operation allows water-resistant stitching (anastomosis) of the bladder and urinary tract together, the catheter can be removed within 6-7 days.

Less Pain: Since smaller incisions are made, patients feel less pain and discomfort compared to open surgeries.

Better Cancer Control: With the help of high-resolution 3D images and 540-degree moving instruments, prostate tissue can be observed more clearly during the robotic prostatectomy procedure. In robotic surgery, the apical region of the prostate can be seen much more clearly and can be intervened with much more precision. As a result, surgical margin positivity decreases significantly.

Better Bladder Control: Robotic prostatectomy patients gain bladder control earlier than those who have traditional surgery. Factors that help gain bladder control sooner are better imaging, less bleeding, and longer retention in the urinary tract.

Earlier Return to Normal Sexual Life: Robotic prostatectomy helps preserve the neurovascular bundle around the prostate and allows patients to return to their normal sexual life earlier than with traditional surgeries.

Urological Cancers Treatment Methods

Liv Hospital Urooncology Clinic; with physicians from different departments such as urology, radiation oncology, medical oncology, radiology, pain and psychiatry; It offers the most up-to-date treatment and care alternatives with a multidisciplinary approach, from diagnosis to advanced treatment, from rehabilitation to post-treatment monitoring.

At Liv Urooncology Clinic, early diagnosed cancer patients can be treated by robot-assisted laparoscopy or direct laparoscopic method by removing only the diseased tissue. While many early-stage testicular cancers are cured after the operation performed by experienced urologists, in necessary cases, radiation therapy is performed with advanced technology Tru-beam devices and chemotherapy is performed in modern environments.

In the treatment of urological cancers, state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment devices such as DaVinci® Robotic Surgery, 3 Tesla Multiparametric Prostate MRI and HIFU ablation therapy are used successfully by expert and experienced teams in their field.

Liv Hospital Urooncology Department offers the following services;
  • Cancer screening and diagnosis
